- I had a go on the pre-pre-preview of GEM DEU this morning and
- thought Anthony (and others) might like some initial thoughts. Bear in
- mind, that some of these are no doubt obvious and already being looked
- into.
-
- Firstly, it's looking really promising, I can't wait to see the
- next version (tomorrow was it Anthony ;-).
-
- I'm not sure about the way the scroll bars work at the moment. When
- you're zoomed in really close (neccessary for careful editing) it'll take
- ages to scroll over to another part of the map. You're forced to zoom out,
- move it, and zoom in again. Not being a programmer, I can't really offer
- advice about an alternative.
-
- In Sidedef/linedef mode, it doesn't yet show which side of the line
- is "out wards", like WINDEU does. Does it (will it) only show the currently
- selected one (I don't remember whether I managed to select one, or whether
- I only tried vertexes and things)?
-
- The map takes a while to redraw, even if only a couple of lines are
- on the screen. Does this mean it has to redraw the whole thing everytime
- something is altered? Also, all of the Things are drawn whatever mode
- you're in. Why not have an option to not display them when in another mode?
-
- The "scale to" dialogue seems to make you edit the wrong number,
- making it difficult to work out.
-
- Some Things seem to be in white, which is a bit strange against a
- white background.
-
- The "view sprites" option crashes, but I was wondering if this
- would only work in 256 colour mode (16's not really enough). Similarly for
- a texture viewer.
-
- There's no information about anything that I could find. Perhaps a
- second window would be of most use for this, showing currently selected
- textures, or thing and sector details.
-
- Editing stuff by numbers would be a pain, but I know Anthony's
- trying to find out how to drag stuff about a window.
-
- These are just first vague thoughts. Any further ones anybody?
-
- Have another day.
